Molesey Away

Bash and grab

Having both beaten Mole Valley by a similar scoreline, I was expecting a tough match against Moseley. I wasn't wrong!
Having no keeper, Anesu volunteered to go in goal the first half, which meant playing Jess at the back.
We started the game well, however a little scrappy. Both teams tying to win the physical battle rather than concentrating on playing football. Unfortunately we were loosing the physical battle, with Katie ending up with a bloody nose and a few other players on the wrong end of an elbow or kick. We eventually broke the deadlock with a cross\come shot from Lauren - we'll take it! Having looked like we were starting to take control, we were hit on the break. Anesu not able to prevent a strike going in at the near post, not her fault, and actually she had played well in goal the first half. With the half coming to a close we won a free kick 25 yrds out. Chloe squared the ball to Lauren who struck the ball into the top corner! Spectacular strike. No time to restart as the half time whistle was blown.
Half time chat was about making our presence known on the pitch and asking the midfield to win the ball more.
Lauren took the gloves and played in goal the second half.
We took control again , Katie scoring, but again a lapse in defence allowed Molesey to score a second. The game became tight again with both teams trying to win the first ball. We were not helped by a referee who appeared to have forgotten his whistle and forgotten to look at our linesman, who was rightly flagging for numerous off sides that were not given (thanks to Jess's dad for filing in for Alan).
We looked stretched at the back meaning Chloe and Gaby having to track back more to help out, which left gaps in Midfield.
Moving Maddie into the centre of Midfield helped us win more of the ball and playing Jess alongside Katie upfront gave us more presence. This appeared to unsettle Molesey defence and we grabbed a 4th, again at the final whistle.

A tough match, and proof we can win when not at our best.

Goals - Lauren x2, Katie x 2

MOTM - Cerys
Player of the Week - Jess
