Holly's last game for Fleet was against Horsley.
Having played Horsley in our second game of the season and winning comfortably 5-2, i was mildly confident going into this game.
Still missing out GK, Jess R took the gloves for the fist half. She controlled her area very well and mopped up the odd attack Horsley threatened us with. It was a scrappy first half, probably not helped with the conditions and state of the pitch. Lauren was putting some lovely balls out to the right wing for Maddie, who in turn delivered a number of great crosses into the opposition area. We were just a tad unlucky not being able to get on the end of them. Katie and Tess worked tirelessly upfront but just needed to be in the right position at the right time.
Finally the breakthrough came with a Maddie cross finished by Katie. I thought we would kick on, but the score remained 1-0 at half time.
A change in goal for the second half saw Lauren take the gloves and Jess occupy the central midfield role.
Again it was a little scrappy but we soon saw Claudia, Holly, Maddie, Katie and Tess link up and start penetrating Horsley's defence.
Anesu marshalled the defence which saw Hannah make a number of good interceptions to halt Horsley when they did breach out back line.
A little mention for Zara who played 15 minutes on the left wing and did a great job.
We upped the pace with 15 minutes left, Jess starting to control the midfield battle, plenty of chat (even at the referee) and plenty of passion from all. Anesu provided some running commentary, which is unusual as she was playing at the time :).
The second goal came with 5 minutes to go. A lovely move which saw the keeper make a save only to push the ball into the path of Maddie who finished with ease. - Shouts of why didn't you pass to Holly were heard around the spectators. :)
All in all, an ok performance and as they say, we got the job done!
Woman of the match - Maddie
