Crystal Palace away first game of the season was never going to be easy. As it turned out we more than held our own for the majority of the match, particularly the 1st half. We had a few good chances in the 1st half where we should have been 2 if not 3-0 up. Unfortunately some rusty legs, and need for taking the ball too close to the keeper proved costly. This I'm confident will improve. Our keeper was rarely tested in the 1st half apart from some great clearances from outside of her box when our defense was breached. Palace scored late on due to a mix up at the back (communication may have helped prevent this) meaning we went in at the break 1-0 down. Jamie and I were quietly confident due to the amount of chances we created , but the confidence started to fade as we let in a second goal early in the second half. Heads appeared to drop as Palace found more space in behind us plus battling against the elements and pitch gradient didn't help. We soon found ourselves 3, 4 and eventually 5-0 down. A change in formation with 10 minutes to go appeared to inject some confidence into the team as we pressed for a consolation. A number of players playing out of position didn't appear to faze many, which is a good sign.
Jamie and I saw a lot to be positive about and work on at training. We go again next week.
